No. 3 Baseball Shuts Out Hiram in Rain Check Game

BEREA, Ohio - The No. 3 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball defeated Hiram College in a rescheduled non-conference game by a score of 4-0 at Fisher Field.

After being originally scheduled to play early in the season, BW (29-5, 13-1 OAC) jumped on Hiram (13-19, 2-8 NCAC) early with a run in the bottom of the first. The Terriers had a few opportunities to tie the ballgame but the Brown and Gold was able to put the game away with a three-run seventh

Scoring Summary

  • Bottom 1st - Senior third baseman Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) doubled to left to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead
  • Bottom 7th - Junior designated hitter Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) broke the six-inning scoreless run with a single to center
  • Bottom 7th - Junior designated hitter Nathan Zinn (Columbus/Worthington Kilbourne) hit a pinch-hit RBI single up the middle
  • Bottom 7th - Clark scored on a passed ball for another insurance run

At the Plate

  • Clark led the way going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored
  • Senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward) also had a multi-hit game as he finished 2-for-4
  • Sophomore left fielder Trent Bucy (Eastlake/Eastlake North) went 2-for-3 with two singles

On the Mound

  • Senior right-hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Baron Collier) closed the book with 6.2 innings pitched, including four no-hit innings, where he tied a career-high eight strikeouts and allowed only two hits and three walks. He lowered his earned run average to just 2.08: the fourth best in the OAC
  • Freshman right-hander Jake Heatherington (Bellaire) is now one save shy of tying the program record for most saves in a season as he threw 2.1 innings, struck out four, and allowed two hits
