Mazula Named OAC Hitter of the Week for the First Time in His Career

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior catcher JT Mazula (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) of the No. 4 nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University baseball team has been tabbed as the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week for the first time in his career.

Mazula earns the honor after going 5-for-7 at the plate and posting a .714 batting average this past week. Over four games on the week, Mazula led the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, runs batted in (RBIs) and walks. He started the week with a 1-for-1 effort against Wittenberg and contnued that against Capital on Thursday. In the first game against Capital, he went 2-for-2 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored. In the following game he went 1-for-2 with two more RBIs and a run scored. To close out the week, he went 1-for-2 against Denison with a two-run double in the ninth and also came around to score.

On the season, Mazula is third on the team with a .371 batting average. He has collected 26 hits in 70 at-bats and came around to score 24 runs with 21 RBIs. He has hit six doubles and one triple for a .486 slugging percentage. He has been hit by a pitch 10 times and walked nine to get a .495 on-base percentage. He is also a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases.

For his career, Mazula has appeared in 100 games with 233 at-bats. He has notched 64 hits with 10 doubles, four triples and a home run. He has come around to score 52 runs while driving in 49 RBIs. He has walked 33 times and is 7-for-9 on stolen base attempts. He has posted a career .275 batting average, .408 on-base percentage and a .365 slugging percentage.

BW is back in action on Friday, May 5th when it hosts an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader and Seniors' Day against crosstown rival John Carroll University on the Fisher Field with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
