Baseball Moves Up One Spot in Latest D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball continues to rise up the D3baseball.com Top-25 rankings as it moved up one spot in the latest poll. The Yellow Jackets are now ranked at No. 3 in the latest poll.

This is the first time in program history that BW has achieved a No. 3 ranking in the national top-25 poll.

The Yellow Jackets started off the week with a 12-11 walk off win over Oberlin College on Wednesday, March 16. The Yellow Jackets used four home runs to get past the Yeoman. Senior catcher Mark Mohnickey Jr. (North Ridgeville/St. Edward) delivered the final shot in the bottom of the ninth to give BW the 12-11 win. Senior All-American infielder Luke Vonderhaar (New Breman), senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference first baseman Alexis Castillo (Sunrise, Fla./The Sagemont School) and junior infielder Nick Clark (Willowick/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) also hit home runs in the contest.

On Sunday, March 19 the Yellow Jackets picked up their second win of the week. Castillo led the offense going 4-for-5 with two home runs, driving in four runs batted in and scoring four runs. Senior Academic All-OAC utility Ryan Guggenheim (Solon) drove in five RBIs behind a three-run homer that gave BW a 10-6 lead in the seventh. Castillo's final home run on the day put the game out if reach in the eighth inning as the Yellow Jackets picked up a 16-5 victory over Case Western Reserve University.

BW is joined by one other OAC school in the Top-25.  Marietta College continues to sit at No. 20 after not moving up this week.

The Yellow Jackets return to the field for a non-conference game against Allegheny (Pa.) College on Wednesday, March 22 at 4:00 p.m. on the Fisher Field.
