Baseball Jumps to No. 11 in Latest D3baseball.com Top-25

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team put together a 3-0 record last week, advancing the Yellow Jackets to the No. 11 spot in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25 national poll. With wins over Hiram College, Defiance College, and University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (Pa.), BW moves to 13-1 in the early season.

The Yellow Jackets put up 45 runs and tallied seven homeruns last weekend while holding their opponents to just eight runs, earning three 7-inning wins (18-3, 13-1, and 14-4). BW was led by senior All-Mideast Region shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) as he hit 7-12 (.583), totaling seven runs, six RBIs, and hit two homeruns. 

On the mound, BW's junior right hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) started the weekend against Hiram and pitched four scoreless and hitless innings while posting eight strikeouts. Junior right hander Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.) started in the game against Defiance, throwing five innings, allowing no runs on four hits and added five strikeouts.

Hitting the other five homeruns for the Yellow Jackets were senior All-OAC right fielder Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), junior centerfielder Vincent Capolupo (Kenmore, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate), junior All-OAC first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen), freshman second baseman Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward), and junior pinch hitter Andrew Parker (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic). 

The Yellow Jackets return to the field today, Tuesday, March 22 as they travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania to face Alleghany College in a non-conference game. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. on Robertson Baseball Field.
