BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College junior right handed pitcher Pat Havens (Twinsburg) has led the baseball team to a 9-2 start this season, including a 7-1 record on its recent Spring Break Trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida. For his efforts on the spring break trip, Havens is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
On the trip, Havens started two games, both Yellow Jacket wins. In an 8-0 shutout win against John Jay (N.Y.) College on the first day of the trip, Havens pitched four scoreless innings, allowed one base hit, struck out eight and walked two to improve to 2-0. In his second outing down south, a 13-0 shutout victory against Medaille (N.Y.), Havens pitched six innings, allowed just one hit, struck out 11 and walked one to improve to 3-0.
He is 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 earned run average and 27 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched (16.2 whiffs per game). He has allowed seven base hits and walked five batters. Opposing hitters are batting just .132 against him.
The Yellow Jackets return to action this weekend when they play in the Ohio Athletic Conference versus Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Challenge at the V.A. Memorial Park in Chillicothe, Ohio. On Saturday, March 17, B-W plays a doubleheader against LaRoche (Pa.) College at 1:00 p.m. On Sunday, March 18, B-W plays Pitt-Bradford (Pa.) twice. Pitt-Bradford is coached by former Yellow Jacket standout pitcher Bret Butler '92.
