BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior pitcher Justin Novak (Strongsville) has been named as a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Novak now qualifies for the National ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America ballot.
Novak, who carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average in B-W's Masters of Business Administration in Accounting program and had a 3.97 undergraduate grade average, is a four-year starter in the Yellow Jacket pitching rotation. He will make the final start of his career this Saturday when B-W hosts Capital University at Heritage Field at 1:00 p.m. on Seniors' Day.
The ace of the Yellow Jacket pitching staff has a 4-3 record this season with 29 strikeouts in a team-leading 52 and one-third innings of work. He has made eight appearances, all starting assignments, with five complete games and one shutout. He has walked just three batters this season. For his career, Novak has made 33 appearances, including 21 starts, with eight complete games. He has a 9-9 record with 69 strikeouts in 152 and two-third innings pitched.
In the classroom, Novak is a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda, Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honor societies and a Jacket Scholar. He was an Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick in 2009 and this spring received the Leadership Award at the annual Student-Athlete Awards Dinner at the College. He also received the Guy Fisher Award for Academic Excellence in 2008 and is a member of the Accounting & Investment Club.
