Department of Athletics Announces 2024 Clyde Lamb Award Winners

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Department of Athletics has announced its Clyde Lamb Award winners for the 2023-24 academic year.

The Clyde A. Lamb Awards are presented annually to 10 male and 10 female student-athletes from each of the Ohio Athletic Conference institutions. Criteria for the award includes at least two years participation in an OAC-sponsored sport, senior status, a minimum GPA of 3.00 and sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete and his or her institution.

All-American and Academic All-OAC distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) and All-American and Academic All-OAC jumper Christian Pfeiffer (Amherst) were selected by the coaching staff as the female and male Clyde Lamb Award recipients. 

Murphy becomes the 15th track and field student-athlete, including the eighth athlete to do both cross country and track field, to receive the honor.  Pfeiffer becomes just the fifth track and field student-athlete to achieve the honor.   Murphy and Pfeiffer become the first ever male and female track student-athletes to be recognized in the same year.

Murphy is a 25-time All-OAC performer (two in cross country and nine each in indoor and outdoor track and field), 17-time OAC Champion (two cross country and 15 in indoor and outdoor track and field) and 15-time OAC Runner of the Week Award winner (six cross country, three indoor track and field and six outdoor track and field) and has qualified for nine consecutive national championships.  She was the 2023 and 2024 OAC Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year, 2022 and 2023 OAC Cross Country Runner of the Year, 2022 OAC Dave Lehman Outstanding Outdoor Distance Athlete of the Year and 2022 OAC Co-Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year.

Off the course and the track, Murphy is a five-time Academic All-OAC selection (three in cross country and two in track and field), two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-American and 2022 United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic selection.  She is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.  Murphy is also the treasurer of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Treasurer and an engagement student-assistant for the Office of Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement.

Pfeiffer is the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor National Champion in the high jump.  He is a three-time OAC Champion, three-time OAC Field Athlete of the Week Award winner and a two-time school record holder. 

Off the track, Pfeiffer is a three-time Academic All-OAC performer (one in men's basketball and two in track and field) and three-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. He is a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.  

Murphy and Pfeiffer will receive their awards at the annual OAC Clyde Lamb Awards banquet on Monday, May 13.
