Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Compete on Annual Winter Break Training Trip in a Unscored Match Up

SARASOTA, FLA. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving team had a non-scoring match up against Randolph-Macon College in Sarasota, Florida inside the Arlington Park Aquatic Complex during its annual winter break training trip.

On the Men's Side, the Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Sophomore Tommie McQueary (Batavia/Bethel Tate) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.38
  • Sophomore Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y.) won the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 57.56 seconds and won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 24.34 seconds
  • Junior Mason Kooyman (Concord Township / Chardon) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle for a time of 22.37 seconds.
  • Senior Austin Olsavsky (Medina) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.02 seconds
  • Freshman Nolan Szuch (Springboro) placed second in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 28.63 seconds
  • Sophomore Gavin Skwirut (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) finished fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke in a time of 31.83

Relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kooyman, sophomore Will Bolin (Mansfield / Ontario), Olsavsky, and sophomore Luke Minick (Stow / Archbishop Hoban) won in a time of 1:31.97
  • The 200-yard medley relay squad of Kingsley, McQueary, Minick, and Kooyman won in a time of 1:41.56
  • The 400-yard medley team of McQueary, senior Alec McNeill (Avon Lake), Sophomore Jason Tafoya (El Paso, Texas), and sophomore Tyson Swihart (Sarasota, Fla. / Sarasota Military Academy) won in a time of 4:01.28. 

On the Women's Side, the Yellow Jackets individual highlights included:

  • Sophomore Athena Pantoja (Ashtabula/Lakeside) won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:06.94
  • Sophomore All-OAC Mallory Dondorfer (Mentor) placed second in the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 1:06.33 and placed fifth in the 50-yard breastroke for a time of 35.52 seconds.
  • Junior Tia Reed (Bluffton, S.C.) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.33 seconds
  • Senior Aubrey Syron (Dayton / Archbishop Alter) won the 50-yard butterfly in a time of 28.32 seconds
  • Junior Kate Wells (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.65
  • Sophomore Samantha Starkey (Bellefontaine) finsihed fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 34.95

Relays were highlighted by:

  • The 200-yard freestyle relay team of PantojaReed, sophomore Mattie Hicks (Oneida), and junior Lauren Slife (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) won in a time of 1:47.20
  • The 200-yard medley relay squad of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken), ReedSlife, and Dondorfer placed third in a time of 2:03.95

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, January 14 when they host Wooster College in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 6 p.m.
