Athletics Department Announces 2022 Outstanding Senior Award Winners

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Department of Athletics has announced its 2022 Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winners.

The Kenneth Steingass Most Outstanding Male Athlete has been awarded since 1948-49 while the Marcia French Most Outstanding Female Athlete was first awarded in 1981-82. Both are presented annually to a deserving senior which is voted on by the coaches. 

All-American, All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC women's basket forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) and All-Mideast Region and All-OAC baseball shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) were selected by the coaches as the Marcia French and Kenneth Steingass Most Outstanding Senior Athlete Award winners.

Edwards ended her illustrious career as one of the top women's basketball players in school history.  She is among the school's all-time leaders as she ranks third in points per-game with 13.99, third in free throws attempted, fourth in points scored with 1,357, fourth in rebounds-per-contest with 7.53, fourth in free throws made with 308, fifth in field goals made with 523, fifth in field goals attempted with 1,048 and seventh in rebounds with 730.  Edwards was a four-time All-OAC selection, three-time OAC Player of the Week Award winner, two-time Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-American, a D3hoops.com All-American, D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region second-team selection, the 2022 OAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and the 2019 OAC Freshman of the Year. 

Off the court, she is an exercise science major that carries a 3.783 grade point average.  Edwards was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, a two-time College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 selection, a Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar, and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

In his final season on the diamond, Ludwick is batting .389 (55-of-139) with 50 runs scored, 36 runs batted-in (RBIs), 22 walks, 13 stolen bases, 11 doubles, eight homeruns and three triples through 33 games played.

For his career, he is the school's record-holder in at bats with 723, hits with 265, runs scored with 194, RBIs with 161, singles with 161 and triples with 19.  Ludwick is a three-time Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week honoree, two-time All-OAC selection, OAC All-Tournament Team choice and a D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Sports All-Mideast Region honoree.  He has been named BW's Big Stick Award recipient in 2021, Gold Glove Award winner in 2019 and Rookie of the Year recipient in 2018.
