Laughner Finishes First - Women's Cross Country Placed Fourth at the Wittenberg Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -  Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team finished fourth out of 11 teams in the Wittenberg Invitational held at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ohio.

 

In a 6k race against other division III schools, including two from the Ohio Athletic Conference, BW finished fourth out of 11 teams, scoring 96 points. Depauw University won first place with 73 points.

 

In the 6k event, Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa. / Central Mountain),  junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, was the top runner for the Yellow Jackets at the Wittenberg Invitational, finishing first with a career-best time of 23:14.5. Freshman Hope Murphy (Mogadore) was the next runner to cross the finish line for BW, finishing third in 18:51.3. Freshman Ellie Burns (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) was the Yellow Jackets' third-highest finisher, finishing in 26:07.8 and placed 34th. Freshmen Jensen Wolfe (Somerset / Sheridan), who finished 37th in 26:18.3, and Jaelyn Jaquay (Cherry Valley, N.Y. / Springfield Central), who ran 39th in 26:21.0, rounded out BW's top five runners.

 

The Yellow Jackets will return to the course on Saturday, September 18th when they travel to Meadville, Pa. to compete in the Allegheny (Pa.) Classic on the Robertson Athletic Complex, hosted by Allegheny College.
