Women’s Track and Field Garners USTFCCA All-Academic Status, Laughner & Murphy Named All-Academic Athletes

NEW ORLEANS – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team has been named as an U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team while senior All-American Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) and sophomore All-American Hope Murphy (Mogadore) have been tabbed as All-Academic Athletes.

In order to earn the team recognition, a team must have a cumulative team grade point average of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter. To qualify for the individual honor, a student-athlete must have a student-athlete must have at least a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 and above and either accepted into the NCAA Indoor Championship or finishing the regular indoor season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event.  

BW, who was one of more than 150 NCAA Division III teams, carried a 3.299 team grade point average. 

Laughner, who garners her third career accolade, carried a 3.72 grade point average in neuroscience and biology.  She was a three time All-American overall (two honors in outdoor and one in indoor), earned 11 overall All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors (four outdoor and seven indoor), three OAC Track Athlete of the Week awards, six-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honoree (five events indoor and two in outdoor), the OAC Co-Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year, OAC Outdoor Distance Athlete of the Year, and four time qualifier for NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships (three for outdoor and one for indoor). In addition, she was a three-time letterwinner in women's cross country. Off the track, Laughner is a Jacket Scholar, Dean's List student, member of Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society, three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, and College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District-7 selection.

Murphy, who earns her second career honor, carries a 3.95 grade point average in early childhood education.  She is a 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor All-American, 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Julie Zajac Indoor Distance Runner of the Year Award winner, the 2022 OAC Dave Lehman Outdoor Distance Athlete of the Year Award recipient and the 2021 OAC Cross Country Runner of the Year Award winner.  Murphy is an 12-time All-OAC performer (six indoor, five outdoor and one cross country), seven-time OAC Champion (three indoors, three outdoors and one cross country) and a seven-time USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honoree (four indoor and three outdoor) and a three-time OAC Distance Runner of the Week Award recipient (two indoor and one outdoor).  Off the track, she is a two-time Academic All-OAC performer (one cross country and one track and field), Jacket Scholar, College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Academic All-District-7 selection and an executive board member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
