Murphy and Rodriguez Win Titles; Women's Track and Field Claims Fourth at OAC Championships

BEREA, Ohio -   Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) wins two titles and junior All-OAC Abby Rodriguez (Grandview, Wash. / Prosser) picks up one victory to help lead Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team to a fourth finish with 80.5 points at the OAC Championships inside George Finnie Stadium. University of Mount Union takes home the team title with 258 points.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included: 

  • Murphy won the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:34.25 and claims her second win in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:17.85, earning her third and fourth outdoor OAC honors.
  • Senior All-American Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) placed fourth in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:44.64 and eighth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:23.76.
  • Sophomore All-OAC Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester) finished in ninth in a time of 4:57.62. 
  • Freshmen Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:06.04.

 Field event highlights:

  • Rodriguez wins shot put with a distance of 39' 8½", earning her second outdoor All-OAC honors.
  • Senior Gloria Jurcisek (Cleveland / Normandy) fifth in the high jump with a height of 4' 10¼"
  • Freshman Catherine Dial (Cleveland / Saint Joseph Academy) placed eighth in hammer throw with a distance of 132' 7"
  • Freshmen Abby Lorincz (Avon) placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 32' 9". 

 On the Relay Side:

  • The 4x100 meter team of sophomore Lexie Gozdan (Canton / Massillon Perry), Collier, freshmen Kenni Voytek (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) and freshmen All-OAC Sam Varga (Louisville / Lake Center Christian) placed sixth with a time of 51.51 seconds.
  • The All-OAC 4x400 meter team of freshmen All-OAC Julie Childers (Kempton, Ind. / Tri-Central), freshmen All-OAC Sam Varga (Louisville / Lake Center Christian), Collier and Murphy placed second in a time of 4:10.48, all adding All-OAC honors to their careers. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Friday May 13th when it hosts Harrison Dillard Twilight inside George Finnie Stadium.
