Women’s Soccer Knocks Off Wooster

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team shut outs The College of Wooster in a non-conference match by a final score of 3-2 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium. 

BW (5-5) dominated the first half. They outshot Wooster (5-5) by a mark of 7-1. The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring in the 22 minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) hit the back of the net to give BW the 1-0 advantage. The Yellow Jackets attack kept the pressure on the Fighting Scots the entire half. Rice was able to finish off another chance to increase the BW lead to 2-0. 

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets continued to control the game. Again, outshooting Wooster by a mark of 8-5. BW was awarded a free kick in the 73 minute, which was taken by freshman defender Hailey Schwade (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange). Schwade sent into the box and freshman forwarder Ella Barth (Highland/Mayfield) headed it past the keeper. In the 88 minute, junior forward Katie Schumacher scored off a rebound to trim the Yellow Jackets lead to 3-1. A minute later, Schumacher got one look at goal and finished it to cut into the BW lead once again. 

In the net for the Yellow Jackets, freshman goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) allowed two goals.

BW opens up Ohio Athletic Conference play on the road on Saturday, October 2 at 1:00 pm against Capital University on the Purmort Field inside the Bernlohr Stadium.
