Leightner Garners Third Career OAC Wrestler of the Week Honor

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- For the third time in his career, Baldwin Wallace University senior All-American 165-pounder Dalton Leightner (Ravenna/Rootstown) has been selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week. 

Leightner, who is ranked third nationally, earns his third career weekly honor after winning the 165-pound title at the North Central (Ill.) College Invitational and helping the No. 11 nationally ranked Yellow Jackets to the team title. 

At North Central, he went 4-0 with three pins and a decision.  Leightner received a first round bye then pinned Eero Gross of Wabash (Ind.) College in the second round in a time of 5:56. He earned a 4-1 decision over Noah Leisgang of the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse in the third round.  Leightner closed out the day with pinfalls over Nick Fetzner of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in the semifinals and Hayden Krein of the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater in the championship.

This season, he has a record of 13-1 with five pinfalls and two technical falls.

For his career, Leightner has a record of 91-35, which ranks him 19th in school history in victories.  He has compiled 34 pinfalls, 18 technical falls and 11 major decisions.

BW returns to the mats on Saturday, December 18th when it travels to Sandusky, Ohio to compete in the Kalahari Duels hosted by Heidelberg University. The Yellow Jackets will take on Defiance College, Trine (Ind.) University, Adrian (Mich.) College and No. 11 nationally-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh with the action beginning at 10:00 a.m. Also on December 18th, the Yellow Jackets travel to Olivet, Michigan for a pair of matches against Olivet (Mich.) College at 4:00 p.m. and NCAA Division I Michigan State University at 5:30 p.m.
