DOYLESTOWN, Pa. -- Baldwin Wallace University wrestling alumnus and assistant coach Andrew Taylor '14 has been named the head wrestling coach at Delaware Valley University.
Taylor becomes the 10th head coach in school history and takes over a program with a rich history. The Delaware Valley wrestling program has produced 15 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships, seven regional titles, six NCAA Division III top-five finishes, 11 NCAA Division III Individual Champions, 82 All-Americans and 30 Academic All-Americans. In addition, the Aggies have had just four losing seasons since 1969-70 and have posted three undefeated campaigns in their history.
"I am looking forward to leading the Delaware Valley University wrestling program and building on their historic tradition," stated Taylor. "This is a fantastic opportunity and I am grateful to have the support of my wife, friends and family to encourage me to pursue this dream. Although I am now an Aggie, I will always be a Jacket for Life. JTM."
Taylor continued, "For the past 10 years I have had the utmost pleasure to be a student-athlete and coach for the Baldwin Wallace wrestling program. My closest friends and strongest mentors are from this program and I have an immense amount of gratitude for the impact Baldwin Wallace has had on me. Coach Gibbs has been a role model, leader, mentor and a friend that never gave up on me as an athlete and has given me the tools to be a successful coach in this sport. I want to thank the athletes that I have had the opportunity to coach, Athletic Director Kris Diaz for his unbelievable support for our program, the coaching staff - past and present, and Coach Gibbs for his leadership and guidance."
As a coach for the Yellow Jackets, Taylor helped guide the squad to a 104-23 record over the last five seasons and captured four-straight Ohio Athletic Conference titles, two Central Region championships and two regional runner-up finishes while being nationally ranked each year. In addition, BW had 38 individual national qualifiers, including a Division-III best nine individual qualifiers in 2018, and six All-Americans. This season, BW was ranked number six in the country heading into the 2020 Division III National Championships.
"I am excited for Andrew and Delaware Valley," said BW head coach Jamie Gibbs. "Andrew has been with me since day one and has been a big part of our staff for the past six years. I am super proud of Andrew's growth both as a young man and professionally. I am grateful for his commitment to BW wrestling. His experience and time at BW have prepared him to take over a storied program. Everyone in our wrestling family will miss him."
Senior All-American 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk) commented on Taylor, "I can't imagine anyone else who would make the same commitment to my athletic, academic and personal growth. He was a great mentor, coach, and friend to me all along the way. I know he will be a success at Delaware Valley."
Taylor, a native of Columbus and graduate of Worthington Kilbourne High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts in early childhood education. He was four-year letterwinner and a second-team All-OAC selection that compiled a 92-70 overall record, including three 20 plus-win seasons. Taylor had a career-high 32 victories as a senior.
Off the mat, he was a Dean's List student and a 2013-14 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-American.
