Chase Garners Second Career OAC Weekly Wrestling Honor

BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University junior 174-pound wrestler Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa./ Cathedral Prep) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.

Chase, who earns his second career OAC Weekly honor, had a 5-0 record last week and improved his season record to 31-6 overall.  He won his OAC match versus the University of Mount Union and helped BW to win its first-ever team title in the 29-year history of its own John Summa Memorial Tournament.

Chase won a 6-4 decision against Mount Union's Nick Miller last Tuesday.   He then posted a 4-0 mark and won the 174-pound title at the Summa Tournament. Chase pinned Austin Davidson of Waynesburg (Pa.) University in 6:43 and Caleb Cox of Muskingum University in 3:44 in the quarter finals. Chase shut out his final two opponents to win the individual title. He shut out Marco Crivelli of Thiel (Pa.) College in the semifinals by a 6-0 count and shut out Sonnieboy Bianco of Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College, 2-0, in the title bout.

Chase, who has a 90-28 career mark, and the Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, February 10 when they travel to Ada for an OAC dual match against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7:30 p.m.
