BW Wrestling Team Finishes Seventh at Ithaca (NY) Tourney

ITHACA, NEW YORK – The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished seventh of nine teams today at the Ithaca (N.Y.) College Invitational Tournament.  This was the season-opener for the youthful Yellow Jackets who do not sport a senior on the roster and 21 of 24 grapplers are newcomers.

The Yellow Jackets scored 89 points to place seventh.  Johnson and Wales (R.I.) was the tournament team champion.

BW was led by three freshmen who finished third. Freshman 125-pounder Jesse Gunter (Akron /Coventry) won his third place match by decision over Anthony Cabrera of Ithaca, 4-0. Freshman 157-pounder Garrett Chase (Erie, Pa. /Cathedral Prep) placed third by beating Mark Gonzalez of Springfield (Mass.) College  9-7. Freshman 184-pounder Lane Louive (Massillon/ Washington) was third as he pinned Kyle McKeighan of Ithaca in 2:51.

Also placing fifth for the Yellow Jackets was freshmen Joe Schmidt (Hinckley/ Brunswick) at 149 pounds, and freshman Jake Landers (Liberty Township/ Lakota East) was sixth at 125 pounds.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, November 10 when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to compete at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational Tournament.  Action begins at 10:00 a.m.
