#24-Ranked Heidelberg College Defeats Baldwin Wallace University, 44-3, in Berea; ESPN Films Match

BEREA, OHIO -- The 24th-ranked Heidelberg College wrestling team defeated host and Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin Wallace  College, 44-3, tonight (Tuesday, January 13, 2009) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. Highlighting the match was the fact that sports television giant ESPN was on hand to film the match and in particular the exploits of BW 45-year-old junior 285-pounder Terence Haynes (Brunswick Hills/ Cleveland Glenville).

Haynes' personal story is an inspiration. He returned to school this fall and after a 27-year absence from the collegiate scene. The Haynes story can be found on the BW Athletics Web site at www.bw.edu/athletics/wr/features/0809 and well as video from an interview earlier this winter by Cleveland TV station WOIO-19 and reporter Dawn Kendrick.

With its win, the Student Princes improve to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.  With its loss, BW is now 2-17 overall and 0-3 in the OAC.

Individually for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodrigde)won, 3-1, to improve to 16-8 overall and 4-2 at 174 pounds.

Haynes lost his match at 285 pounds when he was pinned by Heidelberg's Tony Carothers in 0:40. The loss dropped Haynes to 1-5 overall. Despite his loss, Haynes remained upbeat.  "This is just a great experience," said Haynes, referring to his renewed collegiate experience and the opportunity to compete. "Win or lose, I am enjoying every day with my teammates and classmates."

The Yellow Jacket wrestlers are back in action next Tuesday, Jan. 20 when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to compete against OAC-rival Mount Union College in the Timken PE Building at 7:30 p.m.
