BW Senior 133-Pounder Brian Bucher Named OAC Wrestler of the Week
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin Wallace University senior 133-pound wrestler Brian Bucher, a graduate of Avon Lake High School, had a 4-0 record at the annual Olivet College Duals in Olivet, Michigan on Saturday, November 22, 2008 and is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Although the Yellow Jackets lost all four matches at Olivet to four nationally-ranked teams, Bucher defeated each of his opponents to improve his season record to 9-2 overall and his career mark to 69-28 overall. He also is BW's all-time leader in both reversals and near falls. This winter, Bucher is seeking his third straight 20-win campaign.
"Brian is just an outstanding young man and wrestler," said BW veteran Head Coach Rich Fleming. "He wins because he just never, ever quits. The other component is his unorthodox style. So far, not many of his opponents have been able to figure him out. We are very pleased for Brian. He deserves all olf the accolades that he receives."
At Olivet, Bucher won his first match by defeating Olivet's Kyle Labrecque, 7-4. In his second match, he defeated Trine (Ind.) University's Tye Bowman, 6-4. In his third match, Bucher won a major decision against the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse's David Green, 13-4. He finished his perfect day by earning another major decision, this one versus the University of Wisconsin Steven's Point's Jared Kern, 15-6.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, November 25 at Case Western Reserve University at 7:00 p.m. in a non-league dual match.
