BRIDGEWATER, Va. - In its second of three total spring break trip games, the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell to Bridgewater (Va.) College by a low final score of 7-6 in the Jopson Athletic Complex.

With the loss, BW (2-4) drops its first ever matchup against Bridgewater (3-3). The Yellow Jackets' six goals on the night tied their season-low offensive outing, but their seven goals against also matched their season-low from a defensive standpoint.

The Yellow Jackets offense was led by senior All-OAC attacker Brie Martineau (Strongsville), who scored a team-high two goals on the evening. Senior midfielder Savanna Jaekle (Lockport, N.Y.) and junior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Akron Reserve) also contributed with a goal and an assist apiece in the defeat.

BW senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hidreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) stopped 10 of 17 total shots faced, as she saw her record drop to 2-4 on the year.

Despite the limited scoring in tonight's game, the Eagles were able to claw first and rather quickly. Bridgewater was able to find the back of the net just 37 seconds from game's the opening faceoff to take an early lead. After a combined scoreless drought of approximately nine minutes, BW was able to notch a couple of goals from Jaekle and Ray in less than a minute to overtake the lead. Junior attacker Alexis O'Neill (Westlake) also gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 lead at the 15:58 mark of the first half, but Bridgewater was able to respond within 47 seconds to keep the deficit at one. The last 15 minutes of the opening period featured an uneventful display of offense as just one goal was scored, an equalizer courtesy of the Eagles, over that entire span.

With the score nodded up at 3-3, BW leaned on its veteran point-getter to get back in the scoring column, as Martineau potting her team-leading 15th goal of the season 2:32 into the second half. However, Bridgewater was able to string together its largest scoring run of the game with three consecutive goals. Down by two with 13:11 remaining, Martineau netted her second goal of the game. Her score was then followed by Yellow Jackets senior midfielder Jordan Paugh's (South Lyon, Mich.) tuck at the 10:36 mark to tie the game. With the game on the line, both squads exchanged chances with the possibility to jump ahead, but it was the Eagles that got the final word. Bridgewaer managed to get in the scoring column one last time at the 4:38 mark of the second half, and that was all they needed as BW failed to find the equalizer in the closing minutes.

The Yellow Jackets return to the field for their last spring break trip game on Wednesday, March 11, when they travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to take on the University of Lynchburg in a non-conference matchup on Shellenberger Field at 4:00 p.m.
