BW Wins First Women’s Lacrosse Game

WILMINGTON, OHIO – Junior midfielder Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y.) and junior attack Angie Miljailovic (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) each scored four goals to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team to a 12-6 win at Wilmington College today (Sunday, March 10, 2013) at Gilhart Field in Wilmington, Ohio.  The win was the first in program history.

The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 1-1.  Wilmington falls to 0-4.

In addition to Bodkin and Miljailovic, junior midfielder Ellen Fedick (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored two goals and freshman attack Jackie Buchheister (Bigglerville, Pa.) and freshman midfielder Tia Esbenshade (Wooster) each scored a goal.  Miljailovic also registered two assists for a game-high six points.

Six different Quakers scored for Wilmington.

A pair of goals by junior midfielder Colleen Bodkin (East Aurora, N.Y.) anchored a fast start for BW and the Yellow Jackets climbed to a 5-0 lead within the game's first nine minutes.

Wilmington tried to chip into the Yellow Jacket lead with goals from Sarah Koener and Sammy Watters, but BW charged right back with scores from junior attack Angie Miljailovic (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Esbenshade.

Bodkin's third goal of the game came at the 2:35 mark of the first half and sent BW into halftime with a 8-5 lead.

Angela Phillips opened the scoring for the Quakers in the second half before two goals from Miljailovic keyed a 4-0 run and secured the victory.

Wilmington had a 32-24 advantage in ground balls.  Both teams took 28 shots.

Junior Bridget Walsh (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.  Karalyne Brown had 14 saves in 60 minutes for the Quakers.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Saturday, March 16 when they face Alma (Mich.) College in Alma, Mich. at 4:00 p.m. before returning to Berea to host their first game in school history when they take on Walsh College on Friday, March 22 at Tressel Field at George Finnie Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
