BW Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Hiram in First Ever Game

HIRAM, OHIO – Sophomore Victoria Budzyn (East Aurora, N.Y.) and freshman Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) each scored four goals but the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped its inaugural game to Hiram College, 12-8, today at Charles A. Henry Field.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the game when Budzyn scored the first goal in school history.  The Terriers would respond with five straight goals to take a 5-1 advantage with 11:52 remaining in the opening period.

BW would cut into the lead when Budzyn scored her second goal of the game at the 9:58 mark.   After another goal by HiramBudzyn would record her first collegiate hat-trick as she netted her third goal of the game to cut the lead down to 6-3 with 4:48 left in the opening half. The Yellow Jackets came within two goals at 6-4 when Tallmadge scored her first collegiate goal at 4:31.

After two straight goals by the Terriers, BW would respond when Tallmadge netted her second goal of the game to make the score 8-5 with 1:46 remaining in the opening stanza.  The Yellow Jackets would close out the first half scoring just 14 second later when Tallmadge tallied her first hat-trick to go into the half trailing 8-6.

Hiram opened the second half scoring to extend its lead to 9-6.  BW would cut into the lead when Budzyn tallied her fourth of final goal to make the score 9-7 with 22:17 remaining in the contest. The Terriers would respond with three straight goals to push their lead to 12-7.

The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring at 12-8 when Tallmadge tallied her fourth goal of the game with just 19 seconds remaining.

BW held a 14-6 advantage in ground balls but fell in clears 2-0.

Junior goalkeeper Bridget Walsh (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) logged all 60 minutes in goal, faced 20 shots, and made eight saves. Rebecca Greenhouse played all 60 minutes in goal for Hiram, defended 17 shots, and registered nine stops.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday, March 8 when they will play an exhibition game against the Kent State University club team at Rocky River High School at 7:00 p.m.   BW will then travel to Wilmington to face the Quakers of Wilmington College on Sunday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m.
