Women Defeat Otterbein In Final Regular Season Meeting

BEREA, OHIO  –- Sophomore guard Jessica Lairson (Louisville) scored 16 points to lead three Yellow Jacket players in double figures as B-W defeated Otterbein University, 73-54, tonight (Wednesday, February 1, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Ursprung Gymnasium.  This was the second and final regular season meeting between the teams and was B-W's "Hoops for the Cure" Game.

With the victory, the Yellow Jackets improved their record to 13-7 overall and 8-5 in the OAC while the Cardinals fall to 14-6 overall and 8-5 in the OAC.

In addition to Lairson for B-W, junior guard Megan Frisina (Corry, Pa./Corry Area) scored a season-high tying 11 points and junior forward Nancy Coulter (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) tallied 10 points.  Otterbein was led by  junior forward Hannah Day scored 12 and senior guard Kristi Kotterman contributed 10. 

B-W opened first half on an 11-1 run sparked by two buckets from senior Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) and sophomore forward Lexi Rohrbach (Tiffin/Columbian). The lone Cardinal point was scored by junior forward Chelsea Cannon as she spilt a pair of free throws at the 18:40 mark.

Otterbein then went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead down to points, 11-9, with 13:55 remaining on three-pointers from junior guard Allie Leopard and Hannah Day as well a jumper from freshman guard Madi Miller.

The Yellow Jackets would respond with a 7-0 run to push the lead back to nine points, 18-9, at the 10:45 on a jumper by Lairson.  The Cardinal snapped the run, 18-11, on a bucket by freshman forward Tabatha Piper with 8:14 to play.
 
B-W would once again go on a 14-2 run to push the lead to 19 points, 32-13, on a traditional three-point play by junior guard Rachel Rossman (Olmsted Falls) at 3:53. 
Both teams would score three-points over the remainder of the half to give the Yellow Jackets a 35-16 lead at the intermission.
 
The Yellow Jackets B-W would extend their lead to as many as 23 points in the second half when Lairson spilt a pair of free throws at the 16:12 mark. Otterbein would come no closer than xx points on a jumper by Piper at 12:07.

B-W are back in action on Saturday, February 4 when it will travel to New Concord to take on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum in an OAC game on the Performance Court.  Fans can listen to the game live on WBWC 88.3 "The Sting" or via the internet at www.wbwc.com

Media and fans are reminded that the B-W will televise one more men's and women's basketball doubleheader on SportsTime Ohio. The games are on Saturday, February 18 versus Ohio Northern University. B-W has broadcast more of its athletics events on regional cable TV than any other Division III school.
