Ten Athletic Events to be Televised by SportsTime Ohio in 2011-12

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin-Wallace College will televise ten athletics events in 2011-2012 on regional cable network SportsTime Ohio (STO). Historically, B-W has broadcast more of its athletics events on regional cable television that any other small college in the country.

There will be five football games, including three home contests, a women's and men's soccer doubleheader, at least one men's and women's basketball doubleheader and a home wrestling match televised on STO.

The First TV Game Will be Played This Thursday, September 1
The first telecast is this Thursday's (September 1) when the Yellow Jackets play at The College of Wooster at 7:00 p.m. The game will be taped by S&S Video Productions (see more below) and played on SportsTime Ohio on Friday, Sept. 2 at 6:00 a.m. and again on Monday/ Labor Day at 4:30 p.m.  Please check the STO web site at www.sportstimeohio.com for additional broadcast dates and times.

The five football games that will be shown on SportsTime Ohio this fall include: an away game at The College of Wooster, Thursday, Sept. 1; a home game on Community Day, Saturday, Sept. 17 versus Heidelberg University; a home game on Homecoming, Oct. 15 against Ohio Northern University; away at the University of Mount Union, Nov. 5; and the Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy game at B-W, Saturday, Nov. 12 versus cross-town rival John Carroll University.

Yellow Jacket Soccer on STO
On Saturday, Oct. 22, the College and STO will broadcast a men's and women's soccer doubleheader for the third straight year.  That evening, the Yellow Jackets host OAC-foe Wilmington College. On October 17, 2009, B-W became the first small college ever to broadcast a tripleheader on a regional cable network when it combined with S&S Video to air its afternoon football game and evening soccer doubleheader versus OAC-rival Muskingum University on STO.

Basketball and Wrestling to be Televised This Winter

The winter broadcast schedule has not been announced yet, and its expected to include one or two men's and women's basketball doubleheaders and a wrestling match.  At the time of this release, SportsTime Ohio had not announced its September through November broadcasting schedule. Please visit either the B-W Athletics (www.bw.edu/athletics) or SportsTime Ohio (www.sportstimeohio.com) web sites for updates.

The Talent and the Production Company
In terms of the football telecasts, veteran sportscaster Adam Mendoza will do the play-by-play with senior broadcasting major Chris Terlop '12 (Strongsville) and junior sport management/ communications major William Pantages '13 (Akron) offering the color analysis. In the past, B-W grads and current professional sportscasters Matt Underwood '90 (Cleveland Indians) and Kenny Roda '86 have contributed to the telecasts as well as a number of other local sportscasters. In fact, former Cleveland Cavalier great Jim Chones got his start in broadcasting by doing a B-W game.

B-W, in conjunction with S&S Video Productions, will tape and produce the games that will be given to SportsTime Ohio to air. The broadcasts have the capability of reaching 6.8 million households in the SportsTime Ohio family of networks and many more via Dish and Direct TV access.  In addition to Yellow Jacket football student-athletes and their families being able to view the "fruits of their labor of love" on the gridiron, a group of students from B-W's communication and sport management areas gain valuable experience working hand-in-hand with professionals from S&S Video Productions.

In addition to B-W students getting the opportunity to do the color analysis and at times handle play-by-play, others are contributing as sideline reporters, working the cameras, doing graphics and audio, and learning about both production and direction from the S&S Video team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for our football student-athletes to gain exposure on television, for the College to gain exposure, and for our communication and sport management students to gain valuable practical experience, said Yellow Jacket Head Football Coach John Snell.

I have had students, parents, alumni and recruits who live all over the country tell me that they have seen our games on television, continued Snell. There are even a few groups in cities across the country who gather together on the Saturday nights of home games to watch the games on STO.  That is great outreach for our program and the College.

You Can Watched Archived Yellow Jacket Athletics Telecasts
In addition to the broadcast schedule listed for this season's games, Yellow Jacket fans can log onto the College Internet Web site and view the games again. The address to view previous B-W football and basketball TV games is www.bw.edu/athletics/video/.

The B-W Athletics video library currently contains games from the past five seasons of Yellow Jacket football in addition to some historical contests like the 1978 National Championship game victory against traditional rival Wittenberg University and the 1982 NFL strike era game versus Wittenberg that aired on CBS with Pat Summerall and John Madden doing the play-by-play and color. The library also contains video from B-W basketball, soccer and wrestling.
