2011-2012 Major Athletics Award Winners Announced

BEREA, OHIO - Baldwin-Wallace College has selected its all-time leading scorer in men's soccer in Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina) and its all-time wins leader in women's softball in Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) as its 2011-2012 Outstanding Senior Male and Female Athlete, respectively. The College also has tabbed senior standout men's tennis scholar-athlete Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) and senior women's basketball student-athlete Catherine Spisak (Sandusky/ St. Mary Central Catholic) as its Clyde Lamb Award winners to the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Vandendriessche is the recipient of the Kenneth Steingass Award and Baker is the Most Outstanding Female Athlete. Trzeciak and Spisak earn the Clyde Lamb awards, which are symbolic of the school's top senior student-athletes. Each of the ten (10) OAC schools select a Lamb Award winner who is recognized at the league's spring awards dinner.

"All four student-athletes had outstanding careers and have represented Baldwin-Wallace College with distinction both on and off the field of competition," said Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz. "We are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments, and the awards that they are receiving are well-deserved."

Spisak, who carries a 3.5 grade average in public relations and sport management, helped the Yellow Jackets to compile a 76-34 record with an OAC title and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III National Tournament.  The 2012 Academic All-OAC choice scored 451 career points and ended her career ninth on the school's all-time rebounding list with 620. This season, Spisak averaged 4.0 points and a team-leading 8.4 rebounds per game. Her 226 rebounds ranked seventh for a single season. As a sophomore in 2009-10, she was B-W's Most Improved Player Award winner.

Spisak was extremely involved both on and off campus. For the past three years, she was heavily involved in the leadership of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), including serving as its President in 2011-12. Spisak also worked with the Student-Athlete Services Office (2010-12), was an Event Management Coordinator (2008-11) and was a Varsity Game Day Staff member (2008-12). At the 2011-12 Student-Athlete Awards Banquet, she received both the Leadership and the Jerry Zemelka Yellow Jacket awards. She also was a member of  the Dean's List, the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and a public relations honor society.
