Softball Salutes Five Senior Student-Athletes

BEREA, Ohio -- As the COVID 19 pandemic continues to affect the nation and the world, the Baldwin Wallace University Athletic Department and softball team want to take the time to recognize the hard work and dedication of its five senior student-athletes.

Abby CosartAlex KozichMacy Leach, Talia Prignano and Shelby Sprouse saw their final season come to an abrupt end on March 13 when the Ohio Athletic Conference and NCAA canceled the remainder of the spring season and in doing so the Senior Day recognition they deserved.  

While the NCAA has extended another year of eligibility, it is uncertain if each of these student-athlete will come back for another season or continue down their career path.  So, the University administration, faculty and staff congratulates these five young women on their outstanding athletic and academic careers as well as their leadership to the softball program. The University would like to wish each of them all the best of luck in their future endeavors and hope that even after graduation that they come back and visit us often. They will always be a Yellow Jacket for Life (YJ4L).

Cosart is a marketing and broadcasting and mass communications double major from Lima, Ohio and a graduate of Bath High School.   She is a 2020 team captain and an All-OAC left handed pitcher that will earn her third varsity letter this spring.  Cosart has appeared in 42 career games, including 40 games in the circle with 30 starts.  She has a career record of 19-12 with a career-best 11 victories in 2019.  Cosart has a lifetime earned run average (ERA) of 3.44 with 84 strikeouts in 187.1 innings pitched.  She has 18 career complete games with three saves and four shutouts.  At the plate, Cosart has three hits with a double, a run batted-in (RBI) and a walk. She played one season of volleyball at BW and earned a varsity letter as a setter. Off the field, Cosart is an intern in the Center of Innovation and Growth as well as a student-assistant in the Office of Athletic Communications.  She is the daughter of Denny and Barb Cosart of Lima.

 

 

 

 

 

Kozich is a pre-physical therapy, pre-allied health and exercise science triple major from Avon, Ohio and a graduate of Avon High School.  She is a 2020 team captain, an All-OAC and National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Central Region second baseman that will earn her fourth varsity letter this spring.  Kozich has appeared in 121 career games with a .309 batting average.  She has recorded 114 hits, 70 runs scored, 55 runs batted-in (RBIs), 24 stolen bases, 23 doubles, 20 walks, six triples, three homeruns, one grand slam and one inside the park homerun. Kozich has tallied a .979 fielding percentage with 234 putouts and 146 assists.  Off the field, she is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District 7 selection, Dean's List Student and Jacket Scholar.  Kozich is the daughter of Edward and Jane Kozich of Avon.

 

 

 

 

  

Leach is a sport management major from Westerville, Ohio and a graduate of Westerville Central High School.  She is a 2020 team captain and an All-OAC centerfielder that will her earn fourth varsity letter this spring.  Leach has appeared in 96 career games with a .330 batting average.  She has collected 86 hits, 54 runs scored, 47 runs batted-in (RBIs), 30 walks, 24 stolen bases, 13 doubles, three triples and one homerun.  Leach has a .957 fielding percentage with 125 putouts and eight assists.  Off the field, she is a Dean's List student.  Leach is the daughter of Tom and Keri Leach of Westerville.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prignano is a business administration major from Avon Lake, Ohio and a graduate of Avon Lake High School.  She is a catcher that will earn her fourth varsity letter this spring. Prignano has appeared in 46 career games with five walks, three hits, four runs batted-in (RBIs) and one triple.  She has a .992 fielding percentage with 215 putouts and two assists. Prignano tallied a career-high 12 putouts in an OAC game against Marietta College on March 26, 2018.  She is the daughter of Joseph and Vanessa Prignano of Avon Lake.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sprouse is a psychology major from Granville, Ohio and a graduate of Granville High School.  She is a shortstop and third baseman that will earn her second varsity letter this spring.  Sprouse, who transferred to BW in the spring of 2018, appeared in 15 career games.  She recorded 10 runs batted-in (RBIs), seven hits, two triples, one double and one walk.  Sprouse had a .930 fielding percentage with 31 putouts and three assists.  Off the field, she is an Academic All-OAC selection, Dean's List student and a student-assistant in the Office of Athletic Communications.   Sprouse is the daughter of Rodger and Becky Sprouse of Granville.
