Softball Takes Second Straight Split on Day 4 of Sunkissed March Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. The Baldwin Wallace University softball team picked up its second straight split on day four of the Diamond 9 Sunkissed March Games at Osceola County Softball Complex.

BW won the first game of the day as it posted a 9-5 victory over Bridgewater (Va.) University.  The Yellow Jackets fell to Rhodes (Tenn.) by a final score of 3-1 in the nightcap.

In game one, BW scored a season-high nine runs on a season-best 12 hits as it scored two runs in the third inning, two runs in the fifth and a season-high seven runs in the seventh inning.  Bridgewater scored five runs on three hits as it plated one run in the fifth and four in the seventh. 

BW was led by junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 3-for-4 with two runs batted-in (RBIs) and a triple.  Sophomore catcher Lexi Ripperger (Loveland/Mount Notre Dame) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) and freshman designated player Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) each went 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored.  Junior third baseman Sami Minor (North Royalton) was 1-for-4 with a double and a RBI.  Sophomore second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) was 1-for-4 with a RBI.  Sophomore pitcher Nikki Turner (Hudson) was 1-for-4 with two runs scored. 

In the circle, Turner earned her first win of the season as she allowed five runs on three hits with three strikeouts and seven walks. Freshman lefty Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) got the final out of the game as she caught a liner right back to the circle.  Cosart made four pitches in her appearance. 

In game two, the Yellow Jackets scored one run on three hits as they plated their lone run in the third inning.  Rhodes scored three runs on six hits as it tallied all of its runs in the sixth inning. 

The Yellow Jackets got a base hit from English, Kozich and sophomore centerfielder Macy Leach (Westerville/Central).  Leach drove in the team's run. 

In the circle, senior righty Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) suffered the loss as she allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

BW closes out its spring break trip and the Diamond 9 March Sunkissed Games on Thursday, March 7 with games against Montclair State (N.J.) University and DeSales (Pa.) University at 11:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m.
