Softball Wins Nightcap to Earn Split in Rescheduled Doubleheader with Oberlin

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team won the second game of a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader to earn a split with Oberlin College on the BW Softball Field at the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BW (10-12) and Oberlin (6-16) were originally scheduled to play last Thursday afternoon but the games were postponed due cold temperatures and wind chill factors.

The Yeowomen won the first game by a score of 7-4.  The Yellow Jackets won the second game in six innings due to darkness by a score of 5-2.

In game one, BW scored four runs on nine hits as it scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second and one in the fifth.  Oberlin scored seven runs on 10 hits it scored one run in the first inning three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the seventh.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC right fielder Alexis Boledovic (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) as she went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted-in and a walk.  Sophomore second baseman Alex Kozich (Avon) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.  Junior catcher Sami Minor (North Royalton) was 2-for-4 with a run scored.   Junior All-OAC shortstop Erica English (North Olmsted) was 1-for-4 with a RBI.  Freshman left fielder Hailey Owens (Lakewood) and freshman third baseman Alex Dick (Elyria) each went 1-for-4.

In the circle, freshman left-hander Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) took the loss as she allowed seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits with a career-high four strikeouts and a career-best tying two putouts.

In game two, BW scored five runs on eight hits as it plated one run in the third and four in the fourth.  The Yeowomen scored two runs on five hits as they scored both runs in the second inning.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Boledovic as she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a stolen base.  Freshman left fielder Renata Russo (Columbus/Bexley) recorded her first collegiate hit as she went 1-for-2 with her first collegiate RBI and two runs scored.  Dick, Kozich, Minor and freshman first baseman Mackenzie Milligan (Cleveland/St. Joseph Academy) each had a base knock.  Dick tallied her first collegiate RBI.

In the circle, senior right-hander Sam Mott (Frewsburg, N.Y./Central) won her fourth game of the season as she allowed two runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 11 when they host an OAC doubleheader against Ohio Northern University at 3 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets remain at home with an OAC doubleheader against Muskingum University on Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m. and a non-conference doubleheader against the College of Wooster on Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
