Morgan Records First Career Shutout as BW Softball Earns Split on Day Five of Tucson Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) recorded her first career shutout as the Baldwin Wallace University softball team earned a split on the fifth day of competition at the Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park.

BW (4-6) recorded its first shutout win of the season as it defeated Crown (Minn.) College 9-0 in five innings.  The Yellow Jackets gave up three runs in the top of the seven inning against Loras (Iowa) College and were shutout for just the second time this season by a score of 3-0.

In the day's first game, BW scored nine runs on seven hits and was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) who went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and had a career-high five runs batted in.  

In addition, sophomore right fielder Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins), junior center fielder Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name), freshman designated player Nicole Fletterick (Columbia Station/Olmsted Falls), sophomore catcher Brianna Jesionek (Parma/Holy Name) and Morgan all had a base knock.  Daniel and Jesionek had a double while Fiorucci and Morgan each had an RBI.

In the circle, Morgan had two strikeouts and pitched a two-hit shutout for her first win of the season.

Against Loras, the two teams played six scoreless innings before the Duhawks scored all three of its runs in the top of the seventh.  The Yellow Jackets were held scoreless for the second time this season and had just three hits.

Freshman left fielder Alicia Hack (Pickerington/North), Fiorucci and freshman shortstop Sierra Bennett (Tallmadge) each recorded a hit.

In the circle, sophomore Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with a season-best nine strikeouts.

BW ends its spring break trip to Tucson and the Tucson Invitational Games on Friday, March 13 when it plays a pair of games against Marian (Wis.) University and Edgewood (Wis.) College at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively
