Yellow Jacket Softball Earns Split with Muskingum in Season Finale

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team ended its season as it split a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games against Muskingum University on Donna J. Newberry Field.

Muskingum (23-17, 10-8 OAC) won the opener with an 8-2 decision and BW (14-23, 4-14 OAC) earned the split as it captured the nightcap with a 3-2 victory.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on eight hits and were led by sophomore pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) with two hits as she went 2-for-3.  Six other BW players had a base hit while senior All-OAC first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) recorded the lone Yellow Jacket extra base hit as she had a double.

In the circle, Morgan suffered the loss as she pitched six innings and allowed eight runs on 14 hits with five strikeouts and one walk.

In the second game, BW scored three runs on 11 hits and was led by sophomore left fielder Mackenzie Nelsen (Powell/ Dublin Scioto) with a career-high tying three hits as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored.   Sophomore third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) was 2-for-4 while six other Yellow Jackets had a base knock.   Senior All-OAC second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) and sophomore pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) had the lone BW extra base hits.   Lightel smacked her fifth career and fourth homerun of the season and had two runs batted in.  Dostall recorded her second career double.

In the circle, Dostall picked up the win and she ended her sophomore campaign with a record of 9-10.   She allowed two runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
