BW Softball Team Loses Twinbilll at JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today at OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University at Bracken Field. The Blue Streaks (18-10, 8-4 OAC) won the first game, 4-3, and captured the nightcap, 8-0 in five innings.

In the first game, JCU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. BW (10-18, 2-10 OAC) tied it 1-1 with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Blue Streaks regained the lead with a run in their half of the frame. The Yellow Jackets scored once each in the fifth and sixth to gain a 3-2 lead, but again JCU responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie it at 3-3. The Blue Streaks gained the win in the bottom of the seventh with one out on a walk-off home run.

At the plate, freshman catcher Tori Young (Tallmadge) and sophomore left fielder Mackenzie Nelson (Powell/ Dublin Scioto) each had two hits. Young was 2-for-3 with a double and a run batted-in (RBI). Nelson also was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Erica Morgan (Brook Park/ Midpark) started and took the loss to fall to 4-10 this season. She pitched six and one-third innings, allowed six JCU base hits and four runs (three earned), struck out three and walked four.

In the second game, JCU scored twice in the bottom of the first, two more in the second and three in the fourth to lead 7-0 lead. The Blue Streaks scored their final run in the fifth.

On the mound, sophomore Samantha Dostal (Oberlin/ Firelands) started and pitched the first four innings and took the loss to fall to 6-8 this season. She allowed nine base hits and seven runs (all earned), struck out two and walked seven. Freshman Jaki Bender (Wampum, Pa./ Mohawk) pitched the final one-third of an innning.

BW returns to action tomorrow, Tuesday, April 14 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Ada, Ohio to play an OAC twinbill versus Ohio Northern University at 3:30 p.m. Following a trip to Pitt-Greensburg on Thursday, BW hosts an OAC doubleheader versus the University of Mount Union on Saturday, April 18 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1 p.m.
