WILMINGTON, OHIO – Trailing by two runs in the last inning, the Baldwin Wallace University softball team loaded the bases with two outs, but eventually dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference game to Wilmington College, 6-4, today in the second game of a doubleheader. This was the first of six straight doubleheaders in six days for the Yellow Jackets.
The sweep drops the Yellow Jackets to 13-9 overall and 2-4 in the OAC, and is the fifth straight loss. Wilmington improves to 18-8 overall and 4-6 in the OAC.
The Quakers took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
In the BW third, sophomore first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and junior All-OAC designated hitter Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/ Field) followed with a two-run single as the Yellow Jackets cut the score to 4-3.
Wilmington scored a run in the fourth to extend its lead to 5-3.
Murray again closed the Quakers' lead to one run with a two-out solo home run in the fifth, her team-high fourth of the season.
Murray led the Jackets at the plate by going 3-for-3 with a walk, three runs batted-in, and one run scored, and junior catcher Sami Brown (Kent/ Field) went 2-for-3.
