TUCSON, ARIZ. -- The Baldwin Wallace University softball team lost its second game of the season when it was defeated by Southwestern (Texas) University by a final score of 2-1 at the Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park Softball Complex.

With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-2 overall and will play their second game of the day when it faces Chatham (Pa.) University later this afternoon.   With the win, the Pirates improved to 11-7 overall.

After two scoreless innings, Southwestern would score the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.  The Pirates tacked on what proved to be a crucial run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

BW would score its only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.  Junior first baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) singled to left field with one out.  Sophomore first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) pinch ran for Mullen.  After a fly out, junior left fielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) stepped to the plate and delivered a two out single to left field which was misplayed by the left fielder and Brua would come all the way from first to score.  Peskura tried to score the tying run but was thrown out at the plate to end the game.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Brtittany Lightel (Tallmadge), Mullen, Peskura and freshman centerfielder Jessica Chidsey (West Salem/Black River) all with one hit each.

On the mound, junior All-OAC player Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) pitched six innings and allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
