UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team was swept by cross-town rival John Carroll University, 4-3, in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bracken Field.  The Blue Streaks won the first game by a final score of 5-3.

BW is now 19-17 overall and 4-10 in the OAC.  John Carroll improves to 24-8 and 13-4 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets scored two runs in the top of the second inning without having a hit.  Sophomore All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) led off the inning and reached on an error and went to second.  Senior right fielder Alyssa Brown (Hudson) reached on an error.  BW would load the bases as junior All-OAC third baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) would load the bases with a base on balls walk.   After a strikeout, sophomore Mackenzie Brua (Avon) would get the run batted-in (RBI) walk to score Lightel and the bases remained loaded.   The Yellow Jackets got the final run of the inning with two outs as junior center fielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) got the RBI hit by pitch and Brua would score.

Junior All-OAC pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) led off the third with a double to center field and would score on the RBI ground out by Alyssa Brown to give BW the 3-0 lead.

The Blue Streaks tied the game in bottom half of the inning as it plated three runs on three hits to tie the game at 3-3 after three complete.

John Carroll took its first lead of the game as it hit the game winning homerun in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Despite the loss, Murray had two of the four BW hits as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk.  Lightel and Mullen added the other two hits.

On the mound, Murray (16-9) suffered the loss and pitched six innings and allowed four runs on six hits with three strikeouts and five walks.
