TIFFIN, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to Heidelberg University, 4-3, today (Wednesday, April 17, 2013) in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Jocko Huffman Field.  The Yellow Jackets shutout Heidelberg, 5-0, in the first game.

The split drops BW to 17-13 overall and 3-7 in the OAC.  The Student Princes improve to 11-15 overall and 1-9 in the OAC.  This is the fifth straight doubleheader in five days for BW, which also hosts The College of Wooster for two games in Berea tomorrow.

The Yellow Jackets plated two runs with two outs in the top of the first inning after back-to-back run batted-in singles by senior right fielder Alyssa Brown (Hudson) and sophomore All-OAC shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge).

Heidelberg cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first, then tied the game, 2-2, in the second.

BW retook a 3-2 lead when Brown drew a bases loaded walk in the third frame, but the Student Princes countered with two runs of their own in their half of the inning and captured a 4-3 lead.

Heidelberg allowed just four base runners over the last four innings to secure the victory.

Junior All-OAC designated hitter Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) led the Yellow Jackets at the plate by going 3-for-4 with a run scored. Junior right-hander Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) 2-for-4 with a run.

Peskura started the game in the circle and allowed all four runs (all earned) on five hits in two innings of work, struck out one batter and walked one, and suffered the loss to fall to 2-5. Murray worked four innings of relief, striking out six and walking three.

The Yellow Jackets face The College of Wooster in a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea at 4 p.m. before hosting OAC-leader Ohio Northern University on Saturday, April 20 for an OAC twinbill at 1 p.m.
