BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team fell to Capital University, 5-1, in the first game of an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds.  The second game is slated to start in 20 minutes.

The loss drops BW to 16-11 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.  Capital improves to 19-8 overall and 7-2 in the OAC.

Capital took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before extending its lead to 5-0 with four more runs in the second, keyed by a two-run home run by senior Devan Boggs.

The Yellow Jackets scored their lone run in the fourth when junior All-OAC right-hander Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) singled in freshman Jessica Chidsey (West Salem/Black River), who came in to pinch run after senior All-OAC designated hitter Ashley Elber's (Huron/Edison) leadoff single.

Murray led BW at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a run batted-in.  She allowed all five Crusader runs (four earned) on eight hits, struck out five batters and walked two, but suffered the loss to fall to 13-7 in her 12th complete game of the season.

Following today's twinbill, BW faces OAC foe Heidelberg University tomorrow, April 17 at 1 p.m. in Tiffin before hosting The College of Wooster on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the last of six straight doubleheaders.
