BEAVER FALLS, PENNSYLVANIA -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Geneva (Pa.) College today (Wednesday, April 13) with an 8-2 loss and a 5-0 victory at the Merriman Athletic Complex Softball Field.
With the split, the Yellow Jackets now are 15-6 overall while Geneva is now 16-8 overall.
In game one, the Geneva Golden Tornadoes scored five of its eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. At the dish for the Yellow Jackets, freshman third baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) went 2-for-3 with a run-batted-in. Freshman left fielder Ashley Elber (Huron/Edison), junior second baseman Katie Finley (Vermilion), freshman catcher Sami Brown (Kent/Field), and freshman shortstop Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) each recorded one hit.
On the mound, freshman Justina Wise (New London) suffered the loss while striking out two and walking two.
In the nightcap, junior pitcher Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) threw a complete game shutout to record her fifth win of the season. Baker struck out one batter without surrendering a walk.
The Yellow Jacket offense was led by Mullen who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and freshman right fielder Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
B-W is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Alliance to play Mount Union in a rescheduled doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, April 16 B-W travels to Ada, Ohio to take on the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets return to friendly confines of the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field on Tuesday, April 19 when they play host to Heidelberg University in a doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
