DEFIANCE, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost its first two games of the season as it fell to Defiance College today (Friday, March 18) in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 7-1 and 5-1 at Sal Hench Field.
B-W is now 8-2 overall while Defiance improves to 6-6
In game one, Defiance scored five of its seven runs in the first inning sparked by a grand slam from catcher Mallory Failing while pitcher Shauna Bowers allowed one run on four hits. B-W Freshman left fielder Ashley Elber (Huron/Edison) led the offense as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the sixth inning while freshman third basemanKaity Mullen (Avon Lake) also went 2-for-3. SeniorMackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky) pitched four innings of relief and allowed one unearned run on four hits with one strikeout and no walks.
In the second game, freshman right fielder Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) led the offense as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored while junior pitcher Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) went 1-for-3 with a RBI. On the mound, Baker,who suffered her first loss of the season (3-1), pitched all six innings and allowed five runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks With her five strikeouts, Bakermoved into fifth place on the all-time list with 164 and also moved into sixth place in innings pitched with 339.2
B-W is back in action on Saturday, March 26 when it hosts a doubleheader against Capital University in the home opener and Ohio Athletic Conference opener at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 1:00 p.m.
