BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader over Muskingum University today (Saturday, April 30, 2011) at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field in Berea on Seniors' Day. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 4-1, and captured the nightcap, 7-6, with a comeback victory with six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a 6-1 deficit.  With its wins, B-W has qualified for next weekend's OAC Tournament for the first time since 2004.

Prior to today's games, B-W honored senior standouts, Academic All-America centerfielder Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland), Academic All-OAC first baseman Katrina Resek (Strongsville), third basemanBecky Miner (Berea) and pitcher Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky). The quartet has helped BW to an 88-65 record with three 20-win seasons.

With their wins, the Yellow Jackets improve to 24-9 overall and end the OAC regular season at 12-6. With their losses, the Fighting Muskies are now 12-23 overall and 5-11 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Fighting Muskies gained a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the third inning.  The Yellow Jackets then gained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth when Davis led off with her third homerun this season and the 19th of her career to tie the game at 1-1, and freshman third baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) hammered her fourth roundtripper this season to give BW a 2-1 lead.

B-W added to its lead in the fifth with a run for a 4-1 lead as freshman shortstop Lauren Feciuch (Kent/ Field)walked with one out, stole second after there were two out and scored when freshman LF Ashley Elber (Huron/ Milan Edison) singled. Elber, who moved to second base when the Muskies tried to throw Feciuchout at home plate then scored when freshman designated hitter Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/ Field), this week's OAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, singled her home.

At the plate, Mullen led the way for the Yellow Jackets with two base hits in three at-bats, a run scored and an RBI on her fourth inning homer.   On the mound, freshman Justina Wise (New London) pitched a complete-game five-hitter, allowed one run (earned) and struck out five and walked one as she improved to 12-5 this season. The complete game was her team-high 10th.

In the nightcap, Muskingum again gained a 1-0 lead, but this time with a run in the top of the second frame. B-W tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the fourth when Mullen doubled with one out, and after freshman Stephanie Durig (Vienna/ Mathews) pinch ran for Mullen, she scored on a single by junior pitcher/ RF Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic).  Undaunted, the Fighting Muskies scored five times in the top of the fifth to claim a 6-1 lead. That is when B-W began its comeback.

In the bottom of the sixth, Mullen reached on an error, advanced to second when Baker singled and to third when freshman catcher Meghan Kossow (Tonawanda, N.Y./ Tonawanda) walked to load the bases. After junior Kim Parkinson (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) pinch ran for Kossow and there was the first out of the inning, Feciuch doubled home the first two runs to make the score 6-3. Resek then reached via a fielder's choice with Parkinson scoring the third run of the stanza to make it 6-4. Elber then drove home Feciuch with a sacrifice fly to make the score 6-5. And, B-W took its first lead of the game one batter later when Davishammered her second homer of the day, fourth of the season and 20th of her career for what proved to be the game-winning hit.

At the plate, Baker led the way as she went 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Mullen and Feciuch each had two hits. Mullen scored a run and Feciuch scored once and drove in two.  On the mound, Murray started and pitched the first four and one-third innings. She was followed to the mound by Rohrbacher, who pitched the next inning and two-thirds . Baker pitched a scoreless seventh inning to improved her season record to 6-4 on the season
