Men's Track and Field Opens the Season at Otterbein Invitational

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team opened its 2022 indoor season at the Otterbein Invitational, hosted by Otterbein University in the Clements Recreation Center. Team scores were unscored. 

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Junior ShaDaryll Clark II (Brook Park/Berea-Midpark) won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.46 and placed fourth in the high jump for height of 1.76m.
  • Sophomore Carter Almady (Brunswick) placed 16th in the one mile with a time of 4:42.58.
  • Freshmen Connor Foody (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) finished sixth in the 500-meter dash in a time of 1:11.33 and finished nineth in the 1000-meter run in a time of 2:46.29.
  • Sophomore Desmond Manley (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) placed second in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.17 seconds.
  • Freshmen Joe Kelly (Lakewood) finished 40th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:32.92.

On the relay side:

  • The 4x400 meter relay squad of Manley,Clark, sophomore Mason Birkbeck (Wadsworth) and Foody finished fourth with a time of 3:44.62.

Field events highlighted:

  • Senior Jake Mantle (North Royalton) placed fifth in shot put with a distance of 12.87m and sixth in the weight throw for a distance of 13.20m.
  • Sophomore Eli Washburn finished 19th in the long jump for a distance of 5.17m.
  • Sophomore Joe Barnes (West Plains, Mo. / West Plains) placed 9th in shot put for a distance of 11.99m.

BW will partake in its home-opening meet on Saturday, January 29 for the Dr. Taraschke Team Challenge at 10:00 a.m. in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.
