Men’s Tennis Drops Final Spring Break Match to Albion (Mich.)

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team wrapped up their Spring Break Trip in Hilton Head as they fell to Albion (Mich.) College by a final score of 5-4 at the Hilton Head Resort.

Doubles (Albion, 2-1)

  • BW's (8-2) No. 1 duo of junior Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) and freshman Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) continued to show their chemistry as they picked up a victory over Albion's (6-3) Brett Gurzell and Drake Malcolm by a score of 8-7 (7-4).
  • The No. 2 pair of junior All-OAC Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne) and freshman Caleb Reed (Wilmington) fell to Danny McGarry and Patrick Smoker by a score of 8-6.
  • In the final match of doubles the freshmen grouping of Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.) and Adam Zeidler (Bay/Bay Village) dropped their match to Cecil Burkhart and Michael Polizzi by a score of 8-6.

Singles (Albion, 5-4)

  • In a close match, McGee pulled out a victory in three sets over Gurzell by scores of 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7).
  • Finishing his unbeaten Spring Break run, Kernan defeated McGarry at No. 2 singles by scores of 7-5, 6-0.
  • In the No. 3 spot, Hicks fell to Malcolm by scores of 6-1, 6-1.
  • Tosatto dropped No. 4 singles to Polizzi by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
  • In the No. 5 spot, Zeidler got knocked off by Patrick Smoker by scoresof 6-3, 6-2.
  • In the final match, Reed picked up a victory in three sets over Matthew Czarnecki by scores of 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, March 23th when the team hosts a non-conference match against Thiel (Pa.) College at 3:30 p.m. on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
