Men’s Soccer Draws with Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team drew with Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a score of 3-3 at the Muskingum North Field.

BW (6-8-2, 0-4-1 OAC) dominated the first half on offense. Holding Muskingum (3-10, 0-4-1 OAC) to two shots and no goals. The Yellow Jackets offense had nine shots and two goals scored by freshman forward Mason Morris (Lewis Center/Olentangy Berlin) at the 27 and 40 minute marks. BW limited the Fighting Muskies attack to no shots on goal and carried a 2-0 lead into half.

In the second half, the Muskingum attack woke up scoring three unanswered goals on five shots. The first goal came at the 58 minute mark, when sophomore midfielder Mahfuz Yakubu got one into the net. In the 67 minute, junior forward Edwin Palou scored the equalizer. Then at the 81 minute mark, sophomore midfielder Adam Yazbeck gave the Fighting Muskies a 3-2 lead with his goal. The Yellow Jackets offense came buzzing back with a goal from sophomore midfielder Alex Gibson (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls). BW tried to get another quick goal, but the attempt was denied, and the teams went into overtime tied 3-3.

In the first overtime, The Yellow Jackets got the only offensive chance, which came in the first two minutes. Ultimately, the chance was saved and neither team got another shot off in the first overtime period. As the teams went into the second overtime, BW got another early look just 30 seconds into the period, but once again the chance was saved. Muskingum was able to get two shots off in the second overtime but neither shot was on target and the game finished in a draw. 

In the net for the Yellow Jackets was freshman goalkeeper Zoltan Nagy (Lakewood/St.Edward) who allowed three goals. 

BW returns to action on Wednesday, October 20 when it travels to University Heights to take on crosstown rival John Carroll University in an OAC match on the Wasmer Field in the Don Shula Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
