BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team put together a 4-1 record last week to jump one spot in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25 national poll. The Yellow Jackets hit nine homeruns on the week paired with impressive pitching performances to improve to a 17-3 overall record, and a 3-1 record in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Despite dropping to Wilmington College in their first OAC outing, the Yellow Jackets battled back in game two to beat the Fightin' Quakers 14-1. BW also topped The College of Wooster and earned two OAC wins over Muskingum University. The Yellow Jackets tallied 43 runs last week while holding their opponents to just one run in four of the games.

It was a team offensive effort this week as there were multiple heavy hitters including the homerun hitters: senior utility player Drew Wilson (Sagamore Hills/Cuyahoga Valley Community Christian), freshman infielder Sean Kolenich (Parma/St. Edward) with two, junior All-OAC first baseman Luke Vonderhaar (New Bremen) with two, senior outfielder Bijan Kamalipour (Frisco, Texas/Jesuit College Preparatory School) with two, senior All-Mideast Region shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan), and senior designated hitter Bryce Holt (Richfield/Revere).

On the mound, BW tallied wins from junior right hander Aidan Bennett (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier), who also earned OAC Pitcher of the Week this week, senior right hander Garrett Miller (McMurray, Pa.), junior right hander Dawson Gabe (Lawrence, Ind.), and junior left hander Nik Baldis (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny). The Yellow Jackets also notched two saves from senior right hander Steve Spidell (Mount Eaton/Waynedale) and Wilson.

The Yellow Jackets return to play Thursday, April 7 as they travel crosstown to Case Western Reserve University for a single non-conference game. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. in Nobby's Ballpark.
