Murphy Advances to Nationals - Women's Cross Country Finishes 14th at Great Lakes Regional Championships

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team saw its season come to an end this afternoon, as it competed in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by Franklin College in the Blue River Park.

In a 6-kilometer event that was composed entirely of schools within the Great Lakes Region, BW managed to place 14th of 42 eligible teams, scoring 287 points.  Hope College took home the Great Lakes Regional team title with 98 points and Calvin University placed second with 121 points. Therefore, both Hope and Calvin secured the two regional automatic bids to the National Championships.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Hope Murphy (Mogadore) led the team by placing sixth out of 266 runners. She finished in a time of 22:12.5. Murphy will punch her ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC performer Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) finished 17th in a time of 22:35.4. Freshman Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester) finished 113th in a time of 24:34.8. Sophomore Maddie Miller (Medina) placed 121 in a time of 24:48.5. Freshman Jensen Wolfe ( Somerset / Sheridan) finished the cross line in 140th in 25:12.4. Freshman Cori Wentz (Mansfield / Ontario) finished in 147th in a time of 25:19.3. Closing out the team scoring was freshman Ellie Burns (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) as she finished in 157th place in a time of 25:26.8.
