Murphy Wins OAC Championship - Women's Cross Country Placed Fourth

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team competed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Wilmington College.

In the six-kilometer event that was composed entirely of OAC schools, BW placed fourth out of seven teams, scoring 101 points. John Carroll University took home the OAC team title with 35 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Hope Murphy (Mogadore) as she won the OAC Championship in first place out of 95 runners at a time of 23:01.0. This is Murphy's first career OAC Championship win. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC performer Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa./Central Mountain) finished right behind in fifth in a time of 23:44.1 to first-team All-OAC honors. Freshman Cori Wentz (Mansfield / Ontario) andCassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester) finish behind one another. Wentz placed 42ndin a time of 25:53.7 and Kolonchuk finished 43rd in a time of 25:55.5. Closing out the team scoring was Ellie Burns (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) as she finished in 51th place in a time of 26:09.8.   

The Yellow Jackets will return to the racecourse on Saturday, November 13 when they travel to Shelbyville, Indiana to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by Franklin College.
