Women's Cross Country Looks to Rally Back with Young Team

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team looks to strive for success in the Ohio Athletic Conference in 2021 under the direction of Head Coach, Joe Eby.

BW is back to start this season after not being able to compete in 2020. Eby, who is in his sixth season as head coach, returns one All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer and one Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection while welcoming ten newcomers to the team this fall.

Headlining the returners are junior All-OAC Alyssa Laughner (Howard, Pa. / Central Mountain) and sophomore Academic All-OAC Maddie Miller (Medina). The Yellow Jackets are also pleased to welcome back freshmen Cassie Kolonchuk (Canal Winchester), Kamaria Montgomery (Louisville / Canton GlenOak), and Hope Murphy (Mogadore).

The Yellow Jackets welcome ten newcomers, Freshmen Madeline Bagnasco (Plymouth, Mich.), Ellie Burns (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption), Maura Devine (Baden, Pa. / Ambridge Area), Jaelyn Jaquay (Cherry Valley, N.Y. / Springfield Central), Julia O'Brien (New Oxford, Pa. / Delone Catholic), Haley Rohn (Massillon / Jackson), Molly Skinner (Dayton / National Trail), Katlynn Wald (Parma / Normandy), Cori Wentz (Mansfield / Ontario), and Jensen Wolfe (Somerset / Sheridan).

"We have a young team that has a lot of potential this year after having a big learning curve last year" said Eby "It's going to be an exciting year ahead and I'm hopeful they can continue to work towards our goals such as a conference championship. There are many unknowns such as last year, but I believe we have a squad that is capable to rise and exceed expectations."

The Yellow Jackets open the 2021 season on Wednesday, September 1 when they will travel to Wooster to compete in the annual The College of Wooster Invitational on the L.C. Boles Memorial Golf Course at 6 p.m.
