Women’s Volleyball Suffers First Home Loss to Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team (14-4) hosted Otterbein University (12-2) for the OAC opener at the Lou Higgins Center inside Ursprung Gymnasium. Dropping 3-0 to Otterbein, BW is handed its first home loss.

Otterbein snaps BW's eight game win streak with the victory by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 25-10. The Cardinals move to 1-0 in the OAC while the Yellow Jackets drop to 0-1 in conference play.

The Cardinals outperformed BW on the offensive end, earning the advantage in kills (40-24) and assists (36-22). On the defensive end, BW tallied 48 digs. The Yellow Jackets had four service aces and two total blocks as a team.

Senior All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) posted nine kills while freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) led BW on the defensive end, tallying 18 digs.

Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) dished out 17 assists, added seven digs, and earned two total blocks. Senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) totaled six digs and five kills. Senior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) finished with five digs and two service aces.

BW returns to play Saturday, October 2 as the Yellow Jackets travel to Capital University to face the Comets in another OAC matchup. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Capital Center in Columbus.
