WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) earned the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week award.

This is Gardner's second time this season being named OAC Defensive Player of the Week, previously earning it two weeks ago on October 4, 2021.

She helped guide BW (16-8 overall, 2-3 OAC) to a 1-1 record last week. Gardner notched a remarkable 50 total digs in six sets for an average of 8.33 digs per set. In the 3-0 sweep of Heidelberg University, she tallied 21 digs and added eight assists.

Despite losing to Muskingum University in three sets, Gardner totaled an impressive 29 total dig count, just shy of a 30-dig total (having reached that peak three times already this year).

This year, Gardner has totaled 426 digs (second in the OAC and leads BW). She has also notched an overall average of 4.95 digs per set overall and an average of 7.24 digs per set in OAC play in her 24 matches played.

BW returns to play this Wednesday, October 20 as the Yellow Jackets face OAC opponent and crosstown rival John Carroll University. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium.
