Women’s Volleyball Tops Heidelberg in Straight Sets

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team was on the road to face Heidelberg University in a big OAC contest inside Seiberling Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets topped Heidelberg in a 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-21. 

BW (16-7, 2-2 OAC) tallied 53 kills and hit .252 as a team in tonight's contest. Heidelberg (14-6, 3-1 OAC) finished with just 33 kills and hit .195. The Yellow Jackets also grabbed the advantage over Heidelberg in digs (67-63), service aces (8-1), and assists (50-29).

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior First Team All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Ivy Earl (Howell, Mich.) who posted 18 kills (.341) and nine digs. Senior All-OAC performer and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Cecelia Hamisch (Union/Northmont) also had a double-digit kill night, tallying 15 kills (.351).

Freshman right side hitter Allison Weiner (Columbus/St. Francis DeSales) finished with a 12 kill total and hit .435 while freshman libero Lauren Gardner (Cleveland/Saint Joseph) notched 21 digs. Freshman setter Lauren Reid (Canonsburg, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) dished out 42 assists and added 12 digs defensively.

Senior Academic All-OAC defensive specialist Morgan Martin (Seven Hills/Trinity) tallied nine digs and senior defensive specialist Angela Dunn (Fairview Park/Fairview) finished with eight digs and an impressive career-high of seven service aces. Junior Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) added six kills for the Yellow Jackets.

BW returns to play on Saturday, October 16 as the Yellow Jackets host Muskingum University in a big OAC matchup for the Brain Cancer Awareness Match. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. in Ursprung Gymnasium at the Lou Higgins Center.
