Volleyball Stays Perfect with Sweep of D’Youville (N.Y.)

BUFFALO, N.Y. –The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team continued its perfect season as it swept a non-conference match against D'Youville College in College Center Gymnasium. 

BW (21-0), who improved to 6-0 on the road this season, defeated the Spartans (6-9) by scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-18.

The Yellow Jacket offensive attack was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conferece right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) as each hammered down match-high tying 12 kills.  Junior two-time first-team All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) contributed nine kills. 

With her nine kills, Lortcher now has 1,011 kills and is two kills shy of passing Lisa Richter (1982-85) for ninth-place on the all-time career kills list with 1,012.

Running the offense, freshman setter Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) passed for a match-best 30 assists.

The Yellow Jacket back line was controlled by freshman libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) as she dug out a match-high tying 15 balls.  Freshman defensive specialist Jasmine Hromada (Lorain/Elyria Catholic) and Egan each tallied seven digs.

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 30 when they play a pair of non-conference matches against Grove City (Pa.) College and Alfred State (N.Y.) University in D'Youville College Center Gymnasium at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.

The Yellow Jackets return to OAC action on Tuesday, October 3 when they host the University of Mount Union in Ursprung Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
